The Casting Room

Deb: Some months back I sang the praises of some creative friends of ours. They are known as the National Theatre of the World. They started a wonderful web series called The Casting Room, which they write, produce, and direct. It is based on the casting experiences of Stephanie Gorin who is one of the top casting people in this country.

They have just started their second season. Each episode is based on a real incident in the casting world. This one features yours truly. Hope it gives you some laughs. If you enjoy it, please stay tuned for the whole series and check out last season. They are very short!

OK, I've just got to squeeeeeee all over someone. Tag! Y'all're it! I'm taking care of my best friend's family's critters and house while they're out of town. She left my birthday gift on the dining room table to find while they're gone in case she doesn't get home in time on Saturday. I'm having a total girliegirl moment! She got me the bracelet I'd been drooling over at the bookstore for MONTHS. It's sooooo pretty! Each link is a bezel with a the picture of a book cover under resin. It's an "I Read Banned Books" bracelet! Squeeeee!!!

  23. Deb, I watched a bunch of these today -- they are all so funny (and sadly truuuuue)! Rigel, yay for shiny object!!!! So excited for you. You so deserve baubles of all shapes and sizes.

Lyndsie, take care, sweetie. But also remember, it's early days. Eventually you'll have to get "back in the saddle" but it makes sense that you're in shock still. Thinking of you!!

  24. Honestly, The Casting Room should be in an introductory course for actors - audition etiquette. :)

  25. Lyndsie -

When I was 19, I had a BAD car wreck that landed me on a backboard in an ambulance heading to the ER. My head had gotten intimate with the driver's side window. Oy! The concussion!

It did horrible things to my car and horrible things to my insurance rates and horrible things to my parents' attitude on me driving. (It happened my 1st week of my 2nd year at university.) Those things combined to keep me from driving/having a vehicle until the 2nd semester of my 4th year at university when I had just turned 21. (I finally got fed up, got insurance on myself, claimed my vehicle, and told my parents where to stick it. Anyway...)

It was SO SCARY to drive again! I flinched. I cringed. My heart pounded. I felt so sick to my stomach. I was scared! The guy I was seriously involved with (wasted my whole senior year on him... bummer) rode with me for a brief jaunt around the city. I think it scared him to see how scared I was behind the wheel! lol

But, then, I bit the bullet. If it were a poker game, I guess you'd say I went all in. The girls in my dorm regularly carpooled the hour over to Birmingham for hockey games. After less than 24 hours back behind the wheel, I volunteered to be one of the drivers. I jumped off that cliff! We all made it to the game, screamed our heads off at the game, drooled over the hockey players as they came out of the locker room after the game, and then made it back to Tuscaloosa. We all survived. And, after that, I was 90% OK back behind the wheel except for when in a situation that was very similar to the one of the accident (turning left from a side street out onto a big, 5+ lane, busy road -- the wreck happened at night, but even doing it during the day felt icky). To. This. Day. Left turns without a light onto a busy street give me a nanosecond's hesitation, and the scent of the back of the ambulance comes back to me. Almost 20 years later!

Lyndsie - The best thing you can do is find someone you feel really, really comfy with and take them for a drive. Every day for a few days. Have them be your teddy bear in the passenger seat. But, get back up behind the wheel. Steadily. The big test will be driving through the spot where the wreck happened. Expect to feel ill. Expect to get teary. Expect to maybe have to pull over a couple of blocks later to get yourself together. But, do it. And, do it again and again and again.

Lyndsie, tell ya what. Every single time I crank up my car and drive for the next week, I'll think of you and say a prayer for you.

  26. Aww, you're so adorable, Deb! :D And I really love your voice.

    Lyndsie, take it slow! *hugs*

    Update on my Grandma:
She had surgery today. A stent had to be reopened (if that's the right expression...). She's fine now, and doesn't have any pain. Hopefully, she can come home, soon.
